I wished I had this program 9 years ago when I started homeschoooling. It was a true blessing to go through the teacher certification program. Every Christian mom who has been called to homeschool their children should go through CLE teacher certification. I was convicted by the Holy Spirit on so many areas of my life by going through this certification. It was truly awesome. —Upper Marlboro, MD
I am working my way through the teacher’s course and wanted to comment on the excellent LightUnits, both the unit on Discipline and Motivation and the unit on Interpersonal Relationships. Although no essentially new material is being taught, it’s simply a joy reading the material. It is feeding from a Christian viewpoint and I would whole-heartedly recommend the sound Biblical doctrine to anyone who sees the need for Christian Education. —Portugal
This summer I attended teacher training through Christian Light Education. From the description, it sounded like mostly how-to’s that I could use in my homeschool to be more effective. This was exactly what it turned out to be. There was one unit about the theory of Christian education. The remainder was useful tips and practical ideas that I can apply to teaching in my homeschool. —Alaska
I was so blessed by God to attend CLE training. There is so much that I could tell about what I learned . . . but nothing would really do it justice. The only way is for you to experience it for yourself.
My background is from a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from a secular university. I will tell you that I worked and studied harder that week than I ever have, but the greater reward is the legacy of raising godly children who will impact future generations through CLE . . . “God’s TRUTH, equipping God’s people, to do God’s WORK!”
My experience of attending a CLE Teacher Training session is as follows: When my family and I arrived, I was greeted and shown to our lodging for the week. Another lovely woman provided our meals each night so that I could study. At first, I was a little intimidated by the Mennonite staff, but I found them to be hospitable and gracious. It was a pleasure to learn from them and a joy to be around them. I have never met such a group of people so devoted to serving others. What did I receive from my week of training?
I experienced “hands-on” training as to how a learning center works. I learned how to apply the SQ3R method of studying. I also learned the value of silence. Time spent in the learning center is a silent, independent learning time. I used to have a need for “background” noise such as the TV, radio (even in the car), or other noise, but I discovered three things: 1. silence reduces stress, 2. silence brings peace, and 3. in silence, one can THINK! I learned that our society values doing rather than thinking. What a tragedy!
The instructor personally spent time with me to discuss some of my family concerns. This was one of the times that I will treasure the most. My instructor demonstrated love through listening, encouragement with gentleness, godly advice, and attention to my family needs as I educate in my home.
Being with the group, I received much encouragement from some trainees. Two trainees approached me and told me that they were homeschooled and how thankful they were that their mothers took their time to teach them at home. Another homeschool mom (trainee) shared great ideas for organizing family jobs while homeschooling and suggested some good books for me.
I also decided to enroll in the CLE Homeschool Plus program. I believe it is wise to consider the issue of accountability to an educational authority while teaching at home.
While training, my family and I had the privilege of meeting our homeschool advisor and had an opportunity to get to know her. I would not have had such an opportunity if I hadn’t decided to train in Harrisonburg.
In regards to my educational background, I highly recommend the CLE Teacher Training session whether you have an education degree or not. For those who do not have a teaching background, I believe that this course will significantly help you to focus on your motives and goals for homeschooling and to develop your skills for teaching at home. This course will also help you in understanding Christian educational philosophies, how children think and learn, how to discipline and motivate your children, and many other things.
If you do have a degree in education, I highly recommend that you consider attending this training session. It will refine and enhance your teaching as well as provide a refreshing view of a Christian Philosophy of Education instead of the meager secular version of Educational Philosophy. —New Jersey
